LX v  Khalsa

on 30th October 2016

This was the second LX match against Khalsa, after the hugely successful inaugural game in 2015. Plenty of members put their name down for this, giving selection problems.

Now, the main attraction is the renowned Khalsa hospitality after the game at their Clubhouse in Leamington Spa. A selection of starters, followed by an excellent chicken curry and liberal supplies of beer and whisky. And just good social interaction. Noone seemed to want to go home, but after some encouragement , the LXers headed off to all four corners of the UK. It was proposed that for next years Event, we organise overnight accommodation, and Lakhan Kandola wants us to go to his cousins restaurant just around the corner.

Thanks to all who came, to Balbir Singh for setting up the fixture, to German Singh for being the onfield captain.

Which reminds me, I almost forgot, but before the Khalsa entertainment, we played a game of hockey in Warwick!

We had a good team out, but within 2 minutes of the start we were a goal down through some sloppy defending, and Sat Nijjar of Midlands 65s tapped in at the far post for Khalsa. Gradually LX got into the game, built up the possession, but found it difficult to get enough players forward to really threaten the Khalsa goal. A few snap flicks from Pami Bolina went just wide. Ian Knox was making good runs to the byline on the right. But Khalsa were dangerous on the break, and John Chong had to make some good saves.

Into the 2nd half and LX were now moving the ball well, but still not creating too many chances although Zahid Arain had a good shot saved.. Time to move from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3,  and with 5 minutes to go, and after a goalmouth scramble, Lakhan Kandola pushed the ball over the line. It was now all LX. Khalsa defended deeper, maybe settling on a draw, but with some good movement thro' the middle, the midfield found Pami Bolina at the top of the D, who laid it off for Martin Hall to roof it from 5 yards into the top corner. Good timing, and a well deserved win. But what really counts---a nice game of hockey, played in a good spirit, and well umpired.
