LX CLUB v Khalsa

1st November 2015

Khalsa 1--LX 2

This was a new fixture for LX. And what a great event it was.The match was played on the Park pitch near the river and Warwick Castle, on the most beautiful of November days.

As usual, LXers had come from far and wide--Southampton, Bristol ,Doncaster, Ipswich to name but a few. A squad of 12 players, gave everyone lots of pitch time.

Khalsa have some quality players---for example German Singh, Balbir Singh and Paramjit Hayre ( thought they were LXers !!) but, as with so many LX compilations, the LX team got very quickly into their stride. Robin Conway was pulling the strings in central midfield, distributing to Imtiaz on the right , and John Tripp on the left, collectively feeding John Housham, Pami Bolina, and new boy Tony Taig up front.
After 15 minutes, a move through midfield, down the right wing, a dangerous centre misleading the Khalsa keeper, and there was Tony Taig at the far post to prod in the opener.
After some Khalsa pressure, Robin Conway was found in plenty of space in midfield, and slotted a perfect ball through the Khalsa defence, for Tony Taig to grab his second.
End to end stuff now, with LX always looking dangerous on the break, and the defence of Brian Stokes, Clive Kendall, Zahid Arain and Roger Girling in front of John Chong, were resolute, but in one momentary lapse, Khalsa grabbed what had seemed an unlikely foothold with a Balbir Singh goal-- so that's 3 goals to LX really !
The Team Manager was so pleased  with the LX performance, that he cleverly remained on the sidelines, in the welcome company of the lady supporters, for the whole of the first half, and in an inspiring half time team talk, said he'd settle for no goals in the second half.
Well, Khalsa came more into the game on his appearance, but LX still remained very dangerous on the break. Khalsa short corners repelled, and the second half had 0-0 written all over it. Job done ! A 2-1 win for LX.

Are Khalsa the most sociable of hockey clubs.? Very probably. Back to Leamington Spa for chicken tikka, bhajis, an excellent chicken curry and as much beer and whisky as you could drink.

Same again in 2016. If you want an LX fixture that's a little different, then put your name down for this early in the New Year to avoid disappointment. If possible, Khalsa would like 2 LX teams next time.. Highly recommended.
