LX CLUB v Eastcote

24 May 2015

 Score: Eastcote 1 – LX 2

This was a reunion event for the LX 60 White Team which had competed at the World Cup at The Hague in August 2014. Because the whole squad was not available, three other LXers were invited to fill key positions.

LX Team (in white): Cliff Peck (GK), Alan Wade, Clive Kendall, Paj Singh, Imtiaz Sheikh, Nick Kennerley, Ian Knox, John Stone, George Howard, John Tripp, Parmjit Bolina, Sudesh Nayar

The Eastcote team included a number of LXers: Sarosh Talati, Lloyd Wood, Graham Jackson, Gavin Stones, Franco D’Cruz, Peter Crayford

Early exchanges were led by the strong midfields, with Ian Knox and Nick Kennerley creating opportunities for LX, and Sarosh Talati and Graham Jackson responding for Eastcote. Lloyd Wood on the Eastcote left wing had several threatening runs into the LX circle. The first breakthrough came when Jackson threaded a neat pass in the circle to Wood, who scored with a crisp shot. Alan Wade and Clive Kendall then made several key interception to keep the score at 1-0 at the break.

The second half started with more pressure from Eastcote, with Franco D’Cruz dominating play down the right wing. Having dealt with the early pressure, LX started creating sustained pressure at the other end. Good movement and ball control by George Howard earned a penalty corner, which was converted by Imtiaz Sheikh with an excellent strike. The second Eastcote goal came from another right wing move between Ian Knox, Nick Kennerley and John Tripp, who threaded his shot past the keeper from the narrowest of angles.

The team was supported by several partners, and also by Phil Barbagallo (recovering from an operation) and Paul Woodward (recovering from illness).

The teams were then treated to the renowned superb hospitality of the Eastcote Hockey Club.
