LX CLUB v
at Windermere on Sunday 1st March
LX North 0
Fresh from a
successful trip north to play a Scottish Thistles XI on the facility laid down
for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and with typical Lake District weather
the Cumbria Master’s took to the field in confident mood and had the better of
the early exchanges. LX struggled to string passes together in the first twenty
minutes but stepped up a gear and began to trouble the Cumbrian defence with
Bill Warrender and Ted Hayes spearheading the attack, well supported from
midfield by Mike Patton, David Durrans, John Donnelly and Peter Danson. The
early threat from the Cumbrians faded and LX were now much more comfortable in
possession. The Cumbrian attack was well held by the defensive grouping of David
Blackmore and Andy Holden in the full back positions and Stuart Forrest in the
centre whilst Martin Ferret controlled the circle when required. Half time
arrived with honours even which reflected the pattern of the game.
The second period continued with play moving from end to
end and both sides created opportunities but failed to score. Bill Pickersgill
and Jeff Jackson provided extra support in midfield and although LX felt that
they had the better of the second half the final 0 – 0 score was a good
reflection of the overall pattern of the game.
After match hospitality was provided at the Sun Inn.
