LX CLUB in Jersey

7th & 8th May 2011

A personal report by Tim Pollard.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when the emails of the names of those players interested in coming Jersey continued to grow, with the end result being two teams plus wives and partners totalling forty-two. I was delighted to see that so many wanted to come to Jersey, and that the weekend proved to be a successful one, both on and off the pitch. Meals at Gradees on Friday and The Moorings on Saturday were both well received, and for June and I, Sunday evening seemed to go down well.

Whilst the weather wasn’t at its best, at least the Sunday was rain-free, and needless to say, the dry spell was much appreciated for the evening!

Over the years since I became a member of LX, I have enjoyed some wonderful hockey as well as making many new friends both here and abroad, and in more recent times, June has been delighted to see old friends and new ones, thanks in particular to the LX visits to the Island. Because of that stretch of water between Jersey and the Mainland, it’s a little more difficult to play in a reasonable number of games, so the annual trip by LX gives us a chance to host the weekend. Thanks to Graham Martin and David Read who took on the mainland management organization, it’s been a great success, and my thanks on behalf of Island Hockey for bringing over two teams for Liberation weekend.

In respect of the opposition, I hope that by next year, we will try and make sure that the opposition, in the case of Old Victorians, would have a few less twenty-year olds in their side! Norfolk was, I believe, a “one-off.”

June and I would like to thank you all for the beautiful decanter, and judging by your comments, we think that the weekend was enjoyed by all.

Kind regards, Tim.
